The Montgomery County Elementary School was awarded the Georgia Title I Distinguished School Award for the fifth consecutive year as a result of having made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the seventh year in a row. In order to merit the distinction a school must make AYP for three consecutive school years. Said Principal Randy Rodgers, "We are very proud of this distinction. Our students and staff are very deserving of their recognition for achievement of this level of performance and consistency. It takes a lot of work and attention to detail. There are often times, due to the formula that determines whether or not a school makes AYP, that things have to happen just right. Our teachers and students have been making things happen just right for seven consecutive years." He added, "We will continue to strive to earn the distinction even as the requirements become more and more stringent. This is an honor for our school and for our community." The Georgia Distinguished School program is part of the State of Georgia's efforts to meet the nationally required No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation. MCES is constantly improving the instructional program at the school and employs inventive and innovative programs and strategies as well as the tried and true traditional research-based educational approaches.
